Car Boot Season has started

Here in rural England Sunday mornings in the spring and summer are traditional car boot days.

COVID-19 stopped all of this and many have not restarted. Hopefully the traditional car boot will come back. Nearby to where I live, with the spring now here, the first car boot of the season was this last weekend. Not many people in attendance but hopefully as the weather warms things will pick up.

Autumn

The seasons turn and we are now into Autumn.

As late summer turns to Autumn the light turns, and once again we grab the camera and walk round the village documenting the wonderful light.

Press awards

If your an avid watching of YouTube related photography Chanels, you will know that Canon, Nikon and the rest of the major brands have had it; are going bust, and only Sony is worth buying. Now I admit, Sony have been listening and have addresses many of the issues I have with them, but in this summers press awards what were people actually using to take their winning pictures.

Well as can be seen most of the press are sticking with their trusty Canon’s and Nikons, and most of these pictures were also taken with pro DSLRs not mirrorless.

My view from this is despite what your hear, there seems to be a healthy mix of cameras and that is good for photography.

Jubilee – Her Majesty’s 70 year on the throne

The British love a celebration, and this weekend we have good reason to celebrate. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has now been on the throne for seventy years.

No matter what your views on the monarchy you have to agree she has given us loyal service representing the county for all that time.

Our village has gotten into the spirit of things, with decorations, we also have a small beacon in the pub carpark which we lit.

The queen is the head of the Anglian church here. Our village church has a lovely bell tower.

So we had the bell ringers in ring a peal of bells all morning.

Outdoor shoots – starting to plan

The weather is starting to improve, and so as well as booking studio shoots I am now starting to arrange a few outdoor shoots.

Last year I did some great work outdoors in the good weather. I go a few good shots early in the year but it was cold and the models were brave.

Here’s to better weather and summer shoots.

a Bikers – Night before Christmas

On the Biking Blog “Ride it like you stole it!” which is sadly no more by Dave Dragon, there was a poem “The Biker’s Night Before Christmas”.

Biker Days

I have posted this before but as it is Christmas Eve I thought I was worth posting again.

Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the pad,

There was nada happenin’, now that’s pretty bad.

The woodstove was hung up in that stocking routine,

In hopes that the Fat Boy would soon make the scene.

With our stomachs packed with tacos and beer,

My girl and I crashed on the couch for some cheer.

When out in the yard there arose such a racket,

I ran for the door and pulled on my jacket.

I saw a large bro’ on a ’56 Pan

Wearin’ black leathers, a cap, and boots (cool biker, man).

He hauled up the bars on that bikeful of sacks,

And that Pan hit the roof like it was running on tracks.

I couldn’t help gawking, the old guy had class.

But I had to go in — I was freezing my ass.

Down through the stovepipe he fell with a crash,

And out of the stove he came dragging his stash.

With a smile and some glee he passed out the loot,

A new jacket for her and some parts for my scoot.

He patted her fanny and shook my right hand,

Spun on his heel and up the stovepipe he ran.

From up on the roof came a great deal of thunder,

As that massive V-twin ripped the silence asunder.

With beard in the wind, he roared off in the night,

Shouting, “Have a cool Yule, and to all a good ride!”

Camera of the Year

Leica M10, 50mm Summilux-M 1.4 ASPH

I watched a few YouTube videos proclaiming the camera of the year for 2021. Some were serious and some less so.

Sony, Canon and Nikon were the usual ones mentioned, but one reviewer did mention that today you could walk into any camera shop and pick any new camera and if you cannot get good shots its not the camera but the one using the camera.
