I was after trying out some Kodak Tri-X film that I had just bought and the Leica M4 had only three frames left of Ilford HP5 Plus, my current favourite film, so I went for a quick walk round the village where I live in the hope of using it up.

Many of us in the village keep chickens and several of us either keep bee’s, have kept bees or are about to keep bees so this view from the high street attracted me.  While personally for bee keeping I prefer a national hive with 14 x 12 brood box, an old english WBC hive as seen above is the prettiest and with the double skin practical for colder climates, but with the small brood chamber its not the most practical, thus many sit disused and used as ornaments in gardens.

So its now the end of January and time for my first picture of the month.  Last year I ended on a quick snap from my iPhone, this time I am going to show one of my rejects from a macro photography day I did.

These flowers are really tiny and the shooting conditions were less then ideal, with wind moving the blooms.  I used a mix of daylight and balanced flash, but this did not freeze the picture.

Still I thought with the degree of blur in this shot, it made it look quite romantic, so while not technically correct it is artistically pleasing.

My photographs of the months have been from a variety of equipment over the last year, from Hasselblad, Nikon, Leica, but over Christmas we went for a winters walk round some of the local villages, like many people whilst I had no camera with me I did have a modern smart phone.  At several points during the walk I just grabbed my phone and held it above the hedges and took quick snaps.  I would not call any of these high art but its surprising what you can to do today with phone, so for my last picture of the month of 2014 here is a quick snap from my phone.
