iOS 11 bugs – 2nd of December restarts

I am loving my iPhone X and iOS11 has up to now been great, especially on the iPad.

But on Saturday we hit the 2nd of December and every time my iPhone 6 Plus or iPhone X received a notification the spring board would crash.  I ended up turning off notifications on my iPhone X in order to be able to use it.

A lot of users have been complaining about software issues with Apple products recently and I must have been lucky as I have been problem free up to now.

Working with Adobe Lightroom Classic, CC and Mobile

I was not sure I would use Lightroom CC (the new cloud based solution not what they now call Classic), but this month I have been playing with it a little and decided there are some useful elements that I may be able to incorporate into my workflow.

In Lightroom Classic (what used to be called Lightroom or Lightroom CC), I generally have one large catalogue on my master desktop machine.  This means when I am working away I need a separate catalogue on my laptop.  This I usually keep in my Dropbox.

When shooting on holiday or when round town, i’ll sometimes take a break in a coffee shop.  While enjoying my coffee i’ll import the photographs using the Leica iOS app into my iPhone or iPad, these get imported into Lightroom Mobile which means if I want to later do any more editing the photographs are on my desktop machine.  The issue is; if I was away from home I could only then work on the images on the iPhone or iPad as the Cloud can only sync with one catalogue and I have it set to my master catalogue.  My laptop would not get the images synced across.

But now we have some more options.  If working on my laptop I use Lightroom CC and store the images in the cloud.  If I have used my iPad or iPhone the images also appear and can be worked on in Lightroom CC.  Once back to my desktop as the master catalogue syncs with my cloud the photographs are also there, so we have a way of working on the same images across multiple desktops and devices.  Useful.

Sony’s Medium Format Sensor Roadmap

With all the interest currently being shown in high resolution sensors, its with great timing Sony have released their latest medium format sensor roadmap.

The Pentax, Fuji and new Hasselblad all use the more affordable 50 MP sensors but we have 100 MP version coming in or soon after 2018.  More important then just higher resolution the new sensors deliver nearly 100% faster data read speeds so expect the next generation of mirrorless medium format cameras to be much faster.  For the big boys, and were are talking high end PhaseOne and Hasselblad H series cameras we have a 150 MP sensor coming soon.  Exciting times ahead.

New Blog Themes

Trying out a new blog theme today, i’ll have to redo my headers as they need to be a higher resolution for this new style of layout.

My Apple iPhone X has arrived

Today my iPhone X arrived, I went for the silver model as I have always had black to space grey before.  To be honest it will not make much difference once its in a case but I suspected the silver model might be less popular so got that in the hope and success of getting one early.

So far I am extremely happy.  Face ID works very well and being someone who does not upgrade every year you really notice the improved performance.

Lightroom Classic – First edit

I have now finally take the jump and upgraded my Lightroom CC to the latest Lightroom Classic.

A quick edit using some of my existing M10 presets configured for the previous Lightroom, but a reasonable editing job if done in a couple of seconds.  Over the coming few weeks i’ll be using it continually and getting a good feel of the new version.  I might also download the new cloud based Lightroom CC to my laptop and do a little testing of it.

iPhone X

My current phone is an iPhone X as my Personal Device and I currently have a Nokia Windows phone for work.  While I prefer iOS, I quite like the difference of the Microsoft phone system, its been a brave and different operating system for Microsoft.  While I cannot see myself leaving iOS, I can well see why companies go for the Microsoft Ecosystem.  Its such ashamed that Microsoft now seem to be ditching it.

I had the first iPhone and while it did less then my previous phone I liked the way it worked and have stayed with Apple ever since.

My current iPhone 6 is working well and I have no reason to upgrade, but having the first iPhone I devices I would also buy the iPhone X.

Its too expensive and I definitely do not need one but I placed my order last Friday for the top model, and look forward to receiving it in a couple of weeks.

Huawei P10 with Leica lens

I used to always buy Nokia phones, and use a Psion and then a Palm Pilot as a PDA.  I have used a few Windows phones, the latest being a Nokia Windows 8 phone, but my choice has always been Apple iPhones.

Leica have now continued there relationship with Huawei and the new P10.  For many people the phone has become their compact camera.

While a Leica fan, at least with their M range, I will not be getting rid of my iPhone just yet.

Lightroom CC and Lightroom Classic

The long awaited update to Lightroom arrived and its causing a lot of confusion.  Lightroom CC has been renamed Lightroom Classic CC and we now have a new cloud based solutions which currently has a lot less functionality but is called Lightroom CC.

Confused?

For now I am sticking with Classic but will have a look at the new version soon.

iPad Starts to come of age with iOS11

iOS11 has really made some great improvements to the iPad.  With the dock available when you want it, better multiscreen support its getting close to replacing a laptop for light work.

Adobe recently made some great improvements to Lightroom Mobile.  If your an iPad Pro user and have the Apple pencil you now have pressure support when editing, so that with iOS11 is really moving the mobile photo editing space forward.
