With the camera show season starting today in Japan with the Camera and Imaging Show, the new cameras are now coming thick and fast.
Earlier in the week it was the fantastic Nikon D800, yesterday Olympus announced the OM-D, playing on their OM legacy.
The OM series of cameras most would say, peaked with the OM 4ti, a fantastic camera, with some of the most advanced metering and flash ever seen, some would say we still don’t have metering as good as this now.

The new OM-D E-M5 model is actually a lovely little micro four thirds camera with built in EVF, finally I hear the cry. The major reason I picked a Nikon V1 over the arguably better micro four third cameras was the built in EVF.
With a metal body and weather sealing I hope it sells well. I have never owned an Olympus camera, but they have produced many classics which have come to close to tempting me, most recently with the Pen range. This again I feel comes close but i’ll have to try it in my hand first.
Well the snow arrived as promised. First job on Sunday morning was to clear the drive, with the excess snow we made a couple of snowmen. Silly I know but fun.

Unfortunately it was foggy so I did not go out and get my landscape shots, but hopefully there will be further opportunities this winter.
As most Americans will be aware, Sunday was also Superbowl night. Superbowl XLVI between the New York Giants and New England Patriots. I had arranged a free Monday so Sunday night I stayed up and enjoyed the game with a bottle of rather nice Orkney Malt Whisky, a fine 1989 vintage.
I am a Bears fan but was hoping for a Giants win. It was a great game and will go down in history with the most reluctant touchdown ever scored.
Monday I spent catching up on my sleep. Now to look forward to the Rugby, with England off to a great start in winning against Scotland on Saturday.
It was a cold commute in today. The temperature gauge on the motorcycle reported a consistent -4C, luckily it has been dry so the roads have been ice free.

At this rate I’ll be breaking out the winter gloves. So far on the short commute I have managed with just my summer waterproof gloves with there liners.
The snow is due to hit us at the weekend so I hope for a good covering but with the roads still clear for travel, so I can get out with the Landscape photographer gear and get some good shots.
I keep reading about people who do 365 projects, and I have certainly been impressed with the standard and dedication. I had a go a couple of years a go and managed about two weeks. In case your wondering a 365 project is where you take a photograph a day for an entire year. Many people take self portraits for a whole year, but I feel that would be too unkind for my poor readers.
Last year I tried a small week long project and just managed to pull it off.
This time I thought I would really go for it. I doubt i’ll pull of the year but I have managed the first month, so here it is, one picture a day for a whole month. Most of them are not pretty but at least I have managed to put something up.

I am sure that many in the family think we are mad, but this weekend we started a Bee Keeping Course being held by the Lincolnshire Beekeepers Association. This weekend was just an introduction, but it was lots fun and we learnt a lot.

We even made some bee frames for a hive.
This together with our interest in Chicken’s and Cooking and Baking, I think the family think we will be trying to live the ‘Good Life‘ soon.
It has been a good day for photography. The weather has been a mix bright sunshine, blue sky’s, dark black clouds and rain and rainbows!
Days where the weather is changeable can bring excellent opportunities, with dark foreboding sky’s but with light brilliantly illuminating your main subject.

Unfortunately today, I was never quite in the right position, but as you can see in the shot above taken a few years ago, sometimes you find yourself in the perfect spot.
This sunlight lasted barely a couple of minutes, but I managed to get a shot while it lasted.

Studio Photography & Landscape Photography are my two major Photographic Joys.
With Studio Photography I can create anything I wish, the possibilities are endless.
With Landscape, even if you have found the scene you want to photograph then, sea, tide, weather and light all need to be right.
I know Photographers who have travelled thousands of miles, many times each year for over a decade, trying to get a scene in their head recorded.
Today I found a couple of great locations, but the shots will have to wait to later in the year, when the light is in the right position.
I took a few shots, but with the light conditions I am not too hopeful.
Even so, an enjoyable day out, and lots of reasons to return again in the future.

Today we have been out on location scouting for possible landscapes locations.
I took I few snapshots for reference but nothing serious. I did find a couple of areas that fit in with some long term projects, but that’s for the future.
Weather permitting I have a three pictures in mind to shoot tomorrow, two may not be possible. I don’t feel the sun will be in quite the position I need when the tide is right (always an issue when shooting at the coast).
For the third shot I have a good feeling that it will work.
Hopefully I’ll have all three shots either done or ruled out by about an hour after dawn, then it’s more location scouting, to prepare for the next day.
I love being out on location, it can be stressful when it’s a paid shoot and you have to come back with the goods but when your just shooting for personal projects it’s a real joy.
